So its that time of the year when your technician starts telling you what may have gone wrong with your A/C system. But, what in the heck to they mean?! Here are the 5 Common HVAC terms and what they mean explained.
Compressor:
The compressor is the part of your air conditioning or heating system that pressurizes the refrigerant gas so that it can absorb heat from inside your home and release it outside. It’s like a pump that moves the refrigerant through the system, making sure everything stays cool or warm as needed.
Capacitor:
The capacitor is a small electronic component that stores electrical energy and helps your air conditioning or heating system start up properly. It’s like a battery that gives your system the initial boost it needs to get going. If the capacitor fails, your system may not start at all or may run poorly.
Condenser fan motor:
The condenser fan motor is the part of your air conditioning system that moves air across the condenser coil, which helps release heat from the refrigerant. It’s like a big fan that blows air over the hot parts of your system to cool them down. If the fan motor fails, your system may overheat and shut down.
Blower motor:
The blower motor is the part of your air conditioning or heating system that moves air through the ducts and into your home. It’s like a big fan that pushes air through the system and into your living spaces. If the blower motor fails, you may not get any air flow at all or the air may not be the right temperature.
TXV valve:
The TXV (Thermostatic Expansion Valve) is a small valve that controls the flow of refrigerant through your air conditioning or heating system. It’s like a faucet that regulates how much refrigerant enters the evaporator coil. If the TXV valve fails, your system may not cool or heat properly, or may not work at all.
